Adoption

Mother & Son | Our Community Our Kids

Become an adoptive parent!

Our Community Our Kids helps find forever families for children that have survived trauma and neglect.

Adoption means having a forever home, having a forever family, and always having somewhere to go. OCOK’s Adoption team actively is recruiting for at least 60 children at a time. They work closely with Permanency staff members to recruit adoptive parents for the kids on the Permanency case load that have no families. Adoption personnel also work directly with Child Placing Agencies to find compatible homes for them.

“Adoption is not about finding children for families; it’s about finding families for children."

Frequently Asked Questions about Becoming an Adoptive Parent/Family

The length of time it takes to become licensed to adopt a child depends on the agency with which you choose to work. Each agency has different training schedules and requirements. This is a question to ask the agencies you are considering.

Adoptive families are selected based on their ability to meet the needs of the child. The child will live in the adoptive home for at least six months before adoption can be finalized.

It usually costs approximately $1,000 for an adoption—sometimes more or less depending on the child you adopt.
