At Our Community Our Kids, we create, catalyze, and champion a community-centered way of caring for children and families in crisis.
We work to build stable futures for every child and family in Collin, Cooke, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Fannin, Grayson, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise Counties.
Since 2014, we have been focusing on changing the foster care experience for children and families. Our work is distinguished by an innovative approach of engaging communities to unite in the goal of building stable futures for children and families. We do this work with a high level of respect, a family-first approach and dedication to pushing our field forward.
While in our care, it is critical children are safe, well-cared for and maintain as much normalcy as possible. The best outcomes for children are produced when healthy families are able to care for them.
Where We Serve
In 2014, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) selected ACH Child and Family Services as the Single Source Continuum Contractor (SSCC) for Metroplex West: Cooke, Denton, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise Counties. Our Community Our Kids was created to lead community-based care in the region and assumed full responsibility for its foster care system.
On November 2, 2026, OCOK began serving eight more counties in Metroplex East: Collin, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall. Today, OCOK serves children and families across 18 North Texas counties.
In every county we serve, our goal is the same: safety, hope, and love for every child.
Innovate, Equip, Unite.
In the early days of community-based care, OCOK worked with service providers throughout Metroplex West to assess existing services and expand capacity where it was needed. Over the years, we built a strong network of providers that we continue to support today. As OCOK grows to serve 18 counties, we’re bringing that same partnership approach to providers in each new community.
Together, these providers deliver a full array of services for children and families involved in the Texas child welfare system, creating an integrated continuum of care across our service area.
OCOK also:
- Provides case management for every child in substitute care (children living outside their own homes)
- Sets permanency goals with families
- Coordinates visits between children and their families
- Manages court activities for children in our care
- Provides kinship services to relatives and close family friends caring for children
- Manages Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) services for youth transitioning to adulthood
